Based on this error, it appears you server was/is having trouble sending the request which checks for plugin updates. Within this plugin there was a conditional which was a little too strict and did not gracefully handle this scenario.
I have now published version 3.8.1 which handles this scenario more gracefully and will fix this issue.
If you are unable to update the plugin through the admin, you may download the latest version from My Account.
