Hello! 🙂
How do I create a primary navigation menu with specific categories that reflects the category hierarchy and will dynamically update as categories change?
I’ve been trying to do this on my wordpress.com site for over a year now and I’m finally at the point where I have to make it happen. Please help!!!

Hi Ali,
You may use the “Advanced Sidebar Navigation Menu” widget to select a navigation menu of your choice which may be populated with specific categories. If you select the “Display the current item’s parents only” option the menu will change dynamically based on which category you are currently viewing.
You may also use the “Advanced Sidebar Categories Menu” widget to display a list of categories related to the category you are currently viewing. If you want the list to show on every page you may select the “Display widget on every page” and a Top level parent Category. With this widget you will have less control over which categories display, but as categories change and/or are added they will automatically populate in the widget.
When you say “primary navigation menu” are you referring to the top header menu on your site? If so, if you would like to get a widget setup with the settings to show the menu you want, I can write the necessary filters and CSS to make the widget display in your header. I will however need access to see your theme files. Either through the WordPress admin if editing is turned on, via ftp, or if you prefer you can send me a zip if your theme.
