Hi there. I have this sidebar widget on my shop page and I cannot figure out why the edits I am making are not appearing on the shop page. I’ll change the color and put in exemption categories, yet it still displays them. I have the widget, and also the product category widget on my sidebar, but am I doing this wrong? Do I need to add the categories into the advanced sidebar menu manually?

Hi Miranda,
Looking at your widget settings, it appears the excluded categories currently have their names entered. In order for categories to be excluded, the category ids must be entered instead of the names.
For example, one of the categories you have entered is “Achiever”. To exclude this category, you may instead enter the category id which is “72”.
To determine the category ids, there are a few tutorials out there in the community, but here is a straight forward one.
Have a great night!

Ok- thank you. That fixed my issue. I also had another question. When I add the sidebar into my page, clicking a category causes the products to be pushed down far below where it should be. It appears the widget is too wide for other products to be listed alongside it. How do I fix this? Is there something I can do to have it where I can click a product on the sidebar and it appears directly next to the sidebar with a list of products. Thanks.

I cannot find the CSS to be able to decrease the size of the sidebar widget for the navigation menu. I want to be able to push it to the left more and have the products viewing on the right. Any custom CSS for this and more customization would be helpful. Thanks!

Hi Miranda,
I’m no longer able to access the provided test page, however I was able to locate the use of navigation widget within the shop section.
Looking at your page’s markup I can see you have a sidebar with the class
shop_sidebar wpb_widgetised_column
which contains the navigation menu. That sidebar has correct styles which will layout as you suggested. This issue is being caused by thediv
which wraps the mentioned sidebar. The wrap has the classxlarge-2 large-3 columns show-for-large
which forces thisdiv
to have a width of50%
, which causes everything within the sidebar to display above the content. Here is the complete markup of the wraps for reference:
If you are able to change the markup of the areas, you may remove the
large-3
class from the wrappingdiv
.If you are not able to change the markup of the areas, this could be accomplished with a little custom JavaScript.
Technically, it could also be achieved with some custom CSS, however since the class
large-3
lives outside the sidebar and contains global CSS likely used in other areas, it would likely cause issues in other areas.Have a great day!

Hi there. I tried adding this code, and it did not fix the issue with the width of the sidebar menu pushing out into each category. Is there another option that you have to fix this issue?

I also am running into the issue that when I click on a category and I can see the products, I can no longer use the dropdown menu. How can this be fixed? It almost freezes.

Hi Miranda,
To resolve the first issue with the position, it turns out your div which wraps the sidebar now falls back to
100%
width when the class is removed which pushes it above the content, just like the50%
did. I was able to resolve that issue by setting the width toauto
of your wrapping div.The second issue was caused by our main navigation menu in the header covering up the first portion of your site’s content. It’s hard to see because it’s transparent and only visible on hover, but the position combined with the
z-index
is causes elements near the top of the page to be covered and not clickable. I was able to fix this by adding aposition
and az-index
to your wrapping div.I added the fixes directly to your theme’s functions.php file using the credentials you provided. Everything appears to be working now.
Here is the final code for reference:
