How to only show product categories sidebar for all product pages

Resolved

Requested: 4 years and 2 months ago

I want the left sidebar to show product categories like style and color for all product related pages. I can’t use Advance Sidebar Menu widget because when I drill down categories like Color Black, the result page doesn’t show the sidebar anymore. It seems Advance Sidebar Navigation Menu widget is what I need but the left sidebar shows the same options as top header menu like Home, About, Contact.

On the top menu I only want show Home, T-Shirts, About, Contact and Cart.

On the left sidebar I only want show T-Shirts (Crewneck, V-Neck) and Color (Black, White, Navy, Gray).

Please help.

    Hi Sue,

There are a couple of ways to handle this:

    1. Use the “Categories” widget with the following options
      1. Display widget on every page = checked
      2. Top level parent Category to use for this widget = Color
      3. Taxonomy = Product Categories
    2. Use the “Navigation” widget (like you currently are)
      1. Go to Appearance -> Menus and create a new menu for the widget
      2. Add the categories you would like to show up in this widget
      3. Select this new menu from “Select Menu” in the widget settings

What I missed was Step 2.

It has the look I am looking for, however, when I clicked any option like style or color from the sidebar, it disappears on the result page. The side bar does show on single product page. How to get the sidebar back on all product pages?

    Hi Sue,

This is going to depend a bit on how your theme is setup. Currently there is a sidebar which exists on your single product pages with a class of “left sidebar tc-sidebar”.

Currently your product categories pages do not have any sidebar on them.

I did a quick search as it appears you are using a theme called “Customizr” and came up with following articles which may point you in the right direction.

    • https://docs.presscustomizr.com/article/107-customizr-theme-options-pages-and-posts-layout

Otherwise, if that doesn’t help, you can likely open up a ticket with theme support which will likely have an easy solution. 🙂

    Have a great night!

I got it to work by setting up Appearance – Customize – Main Content – Pages & Posts Layout – “Choose the global default layout” to “Left Sidebar”.

It defaults all pages to have the sidebar include product categories pages, then go to the pages that don’t need to sidebar to set the page layout to “No Sidebar: Full Width Layout”.

Thank you very much for your help.
