Feature Request for Advanced Sidebar Menu PRO

Resolved

Requested: 2 years and 2 months ago

Hi Support Team,

Just purchased – We are looking to use your Pro plugin to configure a sidebar navigation menu that includes Accordions and Filters.

I am linking a Google Doc listing our Feature Requests in the following section.  We need guidance on a) if this is possible b) if so, the best way to structure our product data (Categories and Attributes) and c) recommended alternatives.

Plugin: Advanced Sidebar Menu

    Hi Paul,

Based on the provided information and this plugin’s capabilities, the closest I think we can get would be to use the following.

First thing to do is create the taxonomies (which do not already exist) to use as filters. You will need a highest level term which will act as the reference for which terms will show up in the sidebar. Assign the first level of terms as children under the highest level term. Based on what I understand you will need the following taxonomies:

    1. Brand Category
    2. Product Category
    3. State
    4. School

The category widgets allow selecting a taxonomy as well as top level parent term to use for the widget. You may add a series of widgets to the sidebar, each with the following setting selected:

    1. Display the highest level parent category = unchecked
    2. Always display child categories = checked
    3. Display widget on every page = checked
    4. Taxonomy = custom taxonomy (save the widget to refresh “Top level parent category list”)
    5. Top level parent category to use for this widget = The highest level term for the taxonomy

Unfortunely, product attributes are typically not hierarchal and are not supported for auto generating a list. To display product attributes you could create a WordPress menu which includes the various attributes, laid out the way you like, then add them to the sidebar using the Advanced Sidebar Navigation Widget.

Hope this helps get you close!
