Unable to verify whether or not this site is accessible from the new url

Resolved

Requested: 4 years and 10 months ago

Hi, I have two questions.

1. I’m a PRO user (I purchased the pro version) but I don’t think I have a login to this site to submit a support request.

2. When I check transitioning over to the new URL, it tells me when I click the ‘badge’ to check the URLs, that it cannot “Verify this site is accessible from the New URL.”. Can you explain more what that means? I haven’t switched over the hosting and was wondering if that was why, and what order you recommend changing the URLs.

Thanks so much,
Jenn

    Hi Jenn,

    1. If you checkout as guest an account is not automatically created for you. However, at any time you may register using the my-account page with the same email you used to checkout and your order will automatically be linked to your account.

    2. This message means there was no reliable way to verify the site is accessible from the new url. There are a few cases where this response is given simple because the plugin can’t be sure how to check the new url. Here are some known cases where it is not possible to verify:

    • The entered Old URL and New URL are not the same as the current site URL and are not the domain of the current site.
    • The site is a multi-site using sub-directories and entered URLs are specific to a site on the network instead of simply entering the old and new domains

I ran a test to confirm that switching between your provided new and old urls completed just fine on a local server.

As far as the order goes, I recommend the following procedure:

    1. Setup both old and new domains on the server to point to the site.
    2. Point your host file to the server so you may see the change before the rest of the world.
      1. You can skip this step if you prefer to point to the new domain to the server prior to testing.
      2. If you DO NOT point the domain to the server prior to testing, the URL testing results will always show the site is not accessible or unable to verify whether or not the domain is accessible. (which makes sense because the site is not accessible on the new domain if it is pointed elsewhere)
    3. Change the WordPress Address (URL) and Site Address (URL) in the WordPress General Settings.
    4. Run this plugin to change the domain in WordPress.
    5. Verify everything is working.
    6. Point to the new domain to the server to make the site live on the new domain (if not done already).

Do you think it could possibly be because where the live site is currently hosted is https?

And, do you think the way I formatted it in the private section is the correct formatting for how to set it up?

Thank you for your steps to follow, I will try to follow that.

    Hi Jenn,

The old site will not affect the test results because this plugin is checking against the install where it is run only. It is worth noting that the tests will not complete fully until the domain is pointed to the new server. If the new domain is pointed somewhere else, the test will always show the site is not accessible or unable to verify whether or not the domain is accessible (which makes sense because the site is not accessible on the new domain if it is pointed elsewhere)

The way you have it formatted is correct.
