Custom Category Order and Posts Order

Resolved

Requested: 2 years and 11 months ago

I have two categories of posts I need to be able to order manually. Is this possible? I can provide the current order, but I will be adding additional posts later on, so it would be best if I could modify myself manually.

Plugin: Advanced Sidebar Menu

I can’t explain why the order is not being shown in the sidebar as I am not affiliated with that plugin. I ran some tests against it and it appears to be working on a test site.

The Advanced Sidebar Menu plugin does not support custom ordering of post’s on it’s own but as far as we know is compatible with all third party ordering plugins.

Another option would be to use the “Advanced Sidebar Navigation Menu” widget which allow selecting a custom menu with full control of ordering.

    Hi Miranda,

This may be accomplished by using another plugin which allows ordering of categories.

One that is known to work out of the box is Simple Taxonomy Ordering.

Disclaimer: We are in no way affiliated or responsible for the Simple Taxonomy Ordering plugin.

    Have a great day!

I’m sorry, I think I phrased this poorly. I actually already have a taxonomy order plugin, and my categories are displayed in the order I like. However, the posts inside of these two categories need to be manually ordered. Is that a possibility?

If you would like to order the posts, you may use a plugin like Post Types Order.

    Hi Mat,

I am actually using Advanced Post Types order, but the order I set there isn’t the order I see on the sidebar. Is there a setting I need to change? I thought I had tried all the configurations, but there may be something I missed.

Thinking about other options–is there a way to list pages in a sidebar instead of posts? I didn’t see pages available on the drop-down menu.

Typically, pages will not be available in the categories menu because pages do not support categories by default.

If you have added category support to pages and pages are not available as an option, let me know and I will help you enable it.

I’m not sure why my ordering isn’t working, but I was able to find a workaround by offsetting the publish date of each by a second, so I think this is good now. Thank you!
