Accordian menu dashicon getting flagged for accessiblity issues

Resolved

Requested: 1 month and 2 weeks ago

The Dashicons for the accordian menus are being flagged as “buttons without alternative text”. Is there a way to add an aria-label to the dashicons when they are closed? Would I need to write a script? Siteimprove is lowering our accessibility score and I need to resolve this.

    Hi Susan,

Would it be possible to share the tool being used to see this score? If there is an accessibility issue, our team would eagerly like to fix it.

So far all of our tools are not flagging any issues with menu items. If it is not possible for use to use/see the tool, we can provide the necessary filters to adjust the markup on your site.

Client is paying for Siteimprove program to assess their website. I cannot give you logged in access to see information.

    Hi Susan,

Adding the following filter to your active theme’s function.php file will add an aria-label to the “Arrow” icons you are currently using.

Let me know if this solves your issue and we’ll look into implementing a fix directly in the plugin.

    Have a great day!

    Hi Susan,

Version 9.0.2 of the PRO plugin is now available which includes this fix for all accordion styles.

    You may:

    1. Update the plugin.
    2. Remove the filter.

    Have a great day!
