Tried to change all URLs to staging URL, pages now loading forever

Resolved

Requested: 2 years and 4 months ago

Hi,

I’m using a Bluehost staging site. This suffixes /staging/7952/ to the end of the domain while in development.

I had started to use URLs without the staging suffix while editing pages, but wanted the links within the staging site to work to allow people to review the content of the site. So, I ran Go Live Update URLs (Pro) to update all instances of the real domain with the staging domain. Now pages “load” infinitely (no error), and I can’t get into the backend of the site. I suppose there’s a chance that there’s some updating going on in the background?

I ran an UpDraftPlus backup to Google Drive storage before running it, but obviously can’t get into the backend to restore it.

Thanks,
Dave

The “page not found” page title is loading, and I notice that after some time, the URL of the page it’s attempting to load changes to include the staging suffix twice. So I wonder whether being in Staging mode is messing with things.

    Hi Dave,

Here are some steps which help to restore a broken site.

If that doesn’t work, one of these options may work:

    1. Bluehost may be able to restore the site from the Updraft backup you have in your Google drive.
    2. Assuming the Updraft backup has a database dump, and you are able to access the database you could do a full database restore.
      1. Our team will be happy to help with this if you are able to provide us the backup and database access.

Once you have the site back up and running, you’ll want to update the PRO plugin to version 6.9.1 before attempting to run the plugin. We were able to recreate a scenario where the URL could break when adding a path to it. I can’t say for sure if the scenario happened on your site, but version 6.9.1 will rule it out.
