Page Sidebar Menu

Resolved

Requested: 7 years and 3 months ago

I purchased the pro version today.

I’m having difficulty creating the page sidebar menu.  I want it to look like this:

https://robinsoncenter.uw.edu/about-us/

Menu in the page left column and content displayed in the right column as each item is selected.

I use a theme and Elementor Pro to create the page with columns.

Please help if you will.

    Hi Dawn,

It looks like you just need to assign the sidebar to each page you would like it to show on. On the category pages, there appears to be the correct sidebar, it’s simply displaying on the wrong side of the content.

I’m not familiar with your theme or elementor but it you would like to send me a temporary admin account I can take a look and give some pointers.

    Thank You.

Thank you for agreeing to help.

I created the NEWSROOM menu.  I used Elementor to create a posted element page for each menu item. The query is by categories.

IN THE NEW queries the broadcast category and so forth.

What I want is a page sidebar men on the NEWSROOM PAGE.  The menu will look like this:

    LEFT COLUMN

    Title:  NEWSROOM

    Menu item #1:  Events
    #2: In The News
    #3 Press Releases
    #4 Video Gallery
    #5 Media Guidelines

As each item is selected, the page content is displayed to the right of the menu.

Thank you again for your help.  If compensation is required, please let me know.  I will pay

    Hi Dawn,

I was able to get the menu to display using the following process:

    1. On the example page (Sidebar Menu Page) I added a sidebar widget to the left column.
    2. Selected the About News sidebar in that widget.
    3. Within the About News sidebar I changed the following settings in the Advanced Sidebar Widget
      1. Select NEWSROOM as the top level page
      2. Checked “Display menu when there is only the parent page” (You will want to uncheck this option once you get the child pages setup)

Now the menu is displaying on the Sidebar Menu Page but only the NEWSROOM page is displayed. To add the other pages to the menu, you will want to complete the following steps:

    1. Assign any pages you would like to show with their “Parent” to the NEWSROOM page. This may be done on the page edit screen or with quick edit on the page lists.
    2. Create the left column on any page which will show.
    3. Add the sidebar widget and select the About News sidebar.

    Hope this helps!

I’m sorry Mat.  I’m lost.  I don’t get how widgets really work.

    First Steps

    1. Went to appearance, widgets.  Create a custom sidebar.  News Sidebar Menu.
    2. Drag Advanced Sidebar Menu widget to News Sidebar Menu.
    3. Top level page:  Events page.
    4. Check Display highest level parent page, display menu when there is only the parent page, display widget on every page.

      Second Steps

    5. Not sure what to do now.  So, I create a new page: Page Sidebar Menu.
    6. Don’t know what to do with this new page.
    7. don’t know how to enter new pages to the sidebar!

    I’m sorry.  Please advise.

    Hi Dawn,

The menu items are automatically generated based on which pages exist as child pages of the selected “Events” page.

So the first step is to edit the “Events” page and add the sidebar widget found in Elementor widgets and select the “News Sidebar Menu”. The menu will now display on the page and likely contain only the “Events” page.

Now if you go edit other pages and set them as subpages of Events. Some docs are here. But instead of adding a new page, you would edit an existing page. Then these will show up in the menu as well.

Any page you add the sidebar widget to will then show the menu.

Let me know if you have any questions.

WELL. I got this far. Understanding better.

Problem #1: I created the menu but when a menu item is selected, the content displays in a new page. I want the content to display in the same page as the menu, to the right of the sidebar.

I’m using my test site instead of the real site.

    Please help.
