Maximum Number of Links in a Category

Resolved

Requested: 1 year and 11 months ago

Hi, it appears when you go over a certain number of links in a Category, the Link Ordering doesn’t work and the links don’t appear on the site  For example, all the links for “Ohio Federal and State Court Case Dockets and Filings” display in WP  Simple Link editor, but some don’t display on live page or on Link Ordering.

Plugin: Simple Links

    Hi Paul,

Can you please give me a rough idea of how many links you have so I can generate a proper test case?

    Have a great day!

     Hi Mat,
Sorry it took so long for me to respond.  Your email went into my junk folder.  About 250 links in a category seems to cause the problem.
    Thank you,

    Hi Paul,

250 is well below the safety limit of of this plugin which is 10000.

It sound like there may be a limitation of your hosting environment or possibly another plugin or theme setting which is limiting the returned size? This plugin uses a “custom post type” to generate the links so if there are any limitation on the number of posts which may be queried, that could easily affect this plugin.

I setup a test environment with 500 links and everything appears to be working correctly.

A good place to start, if you can’t find a plugin or theme as the culprit, would be the server logs for PHP or MySQL. Look for something like “memory size exhausted” or “maximum execution time exceeded”.

    Hope this helps!

    Hi Paul,

Upon further investigation it appears there is a hard limit of 200 links when ordering links by categories.

Version 4.6.1 of the basic plugin is now available which changes this limit to 1000.

    Have a great day!

Great!  Thank you so much.  I have the basic and Pro versions installed.  So do I just upgrade the basic version, and it should work?  I should always keep both versions installed?
    Thank you,

    Hi Paul,

Yes, exactly. You may want to re-sort any links which were not being displayed to confirm their sort order.

Both versions must always be installed. Luckily there is a warning if you try to activate the PRO version without the basic version that will let you know what to do.

    Have a great day!

    Mat Lipe
